Assistance with government subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar Yojna
1. What subsidies are available for residential rooftop solar systems in Uttar Pradesh?
You can receive both central and state subsidies. The central government under the PM Surya Ghar Yojna (and similar schemes) offers up to about ₹ 30,000 per kW (for 1–2 kW) and up to ₹ 78,000 for systems 3 kW and above.
On the state side, the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) provides an additional subsidy of approximately ₹ 15,000 per kW, capped at about ₹ 30,000 per consumer.
2. Who is eligible to apply for the rooftop solar subsidy?
The subsidy is available for residential consumers, including individual households and for group housing societies/residential welfare associations (RWAs) in Uttar Pradesh. Commercial or industrial units have different schemes and may not qualify for the residential rooftop subsidy.
3. What is the process to apply for subsidy in Uttar Pradesh?
Register the proposal through the designated portal (for example via UPNEDA’s solar rooftop portal).
Submit required documents such as your electricity connection number, Aadhaar, proof of residence/ownership, and bank account details.
Once the system is installed and verified, the subsidy amounts (central + state) will be credited to your bank account.
Q1. How do I determine the right solar system size for my home?
The system size depends on your average monthly electricity consumption, available rooftop space, and sunlight exposure. Typically, a 1 kW solar system generates about 4–5 units per day, which is suitable for a small household with up to ₹1,000–₹1,500 monthly electricity bills.
Q2. How much power does a 3 kW solar system generate?
A 3 kW system produces around 12–15 units per day, depending on sunlight and location. This can meet the power needs of an average medium-sized household.
Q3. What are the average savings from a rooftop solar system?
Savings depend on system size and electricity tariff. For example:
1 kW system: saves ₹ 1,000–₹ 1,500/month
3 kW system: saves ₹ 3,000–₹ 4,000/month
5 kW system: saves ₹ 5,000–₹ 7,000/month
Over a year, this can reduce your electricity bills by 70–90%.
Q4. How much area is required for installing solar panels?
On average, a 1 kW solar system needs about 100 sq. ft. of shadow-free rooftop space. So, a 5 kW system would need roughly 500 sq. ft.
Q5. What is the payback period for a solar system?
Most solar systems pay for themselves within 4–6 years through electricity savings. After that, you enjoy free power for up to 20–25 years.
Q1. How long does it take to install a solar system?
The installation time depends on the system size and site conditions. Typically, a residential solar system (1–5 kW) takes 3 to 5 days for complete installation, including mounting, wiring, and testing.
Q2. Do I need to make any changes to my existing electrical setup?
In most cases, no major changes are required. Our team will connect your solar system to your existing meter and grid through a net-metering system, ensuring seamless power usage and export of excess electricity.
Q3. Is maintenance required for solar panels?
Solar systems require minimal maintenance. You only need to clean the panels once or twice a month to remove dust and ensure maximum sunlight absorption.
Q4. What happens during cloudy days or at night?
During cloudy weather, power generation may reduce slightly, but you’ll still receive electricity from the grid. At night, your home automatically switches to grid power to maintain uninterrupted supply.
